14 hours after car tumbles down embankment, woman rescued off OC highway

A woman whose car tumbled down an embankment off the 241 Toll Road Thursday was taken by helicopter to an area hospital.

Authorities spent nearly two hours trying to track down just where the car ended up, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Denise Quesada.

Anaheim police initially took a call from the victim's husband at 8:47 a.m. saying she had been involved in a crash, but he wasn't sure where she was, Quesada said.

Around 10:30 a.m., authorities found the car off the 241, just south of the 241 Toll Road, Quesada said.

"Her cell phone was pinging at the Santa Ana (5) and the (Laguna Canyon Road) 133,'' Quesada said. "By the time we got the call and started searching for her the cell phone died.''

The woman was airlifted by Orange County Fire Authority rescue workers, Quesada said. Her condition was not immediately known.
