1 wounded in officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana

One person was hospitalized with a gunshot wound suffered in an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana.

The shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Evergreen and Occidental streets and involved gang unit detectives, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertanga of the Santa Ana Police Department.

A suspect was hit and a weapon was recovered at the scene, he said.

Detectives were in a patrol car in an alley between Evergreen and Occidental streets when the suspect ran out of a garage and began firing at police, striking the vehicle, news outlets reported.

The detectives stopped the vehicle and returned fire, striking the suspect in the upper body.

The suspect's identity or condition was not immediately known.

There were no reports of any officers injured.
