1 person killed in fiery crash involving Metro bus on 10 freeway in Alhambra

One person was killed Tuesday night when a vehicle crashed into a Metro bus before catching on fire on the westbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Alhambra.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m. near Fremont Avenue creating a traffic jam. The California Highway Patrol says a sedan may have rear-ended the bus resulting in deadly injuries to that driver. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the vehicle flames. At least three traffic lanes are closed due to the crash. Drivers should expect major delays.

The bus was carrying four people at the time of the crash, officials said. Their injuries, if any, are unknown at this time.

The bus had mechanical issues and stalled on the 10 freeway before being rear-ended, according to Metro Public Information Officer Jose Ribaldo.

The identity of the person killed was not immediately released. The investigation is ongoing.
