1 killed, 4 injured in off-ramp crash in West Los Angeles

A motorist was killed Wednesday and his four passengers were badly injured when an SUV crashed and overturned on the Olympic Boulevard off-ramp from the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in West Los Angeles.

The crash occurred about 4 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.

A man in his 20s died at the scene and his four passengers were transported for hospital treatment in critical condition, according to the CHP and reports from the scene.

According to the preliminary investigation, the late-model Lexus SUV went out of control -- possibly while speeding -- and overturned on the off-ramp, authorities said.

The off-ramp was closed while an investigation was conducted, a closure that was continuing about three hours afterward.
