Search for man buried alive at workplace in Mexico City turns to recovery mission

Rescuers in the Colonia Roma area of Mexico City were searching Thursday for a man buried alive in the devastating earthquake that hit Mexico.

Erick Gaona Garnica was buried alive in his office when the magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck. Garnica worked as a medical laboratory office.

Rescuers worked overnight and managed to make a tunnel in the rubble to the location of his office, where they were able to insert a tiny camera similar to the ones used in surgeries. However, rescuers could not locate him.

At one point in the search, Garnica was talking to rescuers. As of Thursday morning, they had not heard from him "for hours."

By noon Thursday, the search for Garnica had turned to a recovery mission.
