Woman killed in hit-and-run in Silver Lake
SILVER LAKE, Calif. (FOX 11) - A woman was killed Wednesday morning in a hit-and-run that occurred in the 1800 block of Hyperion Avenue in Silver Lake.
Los Angeles police say a passerby collecting recyclables discovered the victim shortly after 7:30 a.m. and had a nearby business call 9-1-1.
The victim was later identified as 57-year-old Cristina Garcia.
Surveillance video shows Garcia standing on the sidewalk between two trash cans when she was struck by a tan/brown 2010 to 2013 4-door Toyota Corolla traveling southbound on Hyperion Avenue. At one point, the driver got out of the car to inspect the damage.
The Corolla spun out of control after losing traction due to the wet weather and slick road, police say.
Investigators believe Garcia was launched approximately 15 feet into an open area between two buildings.
Police say the Corolla has obvious damage to the right side, the rear, and the bumper was hanging as the individual drove away.
