Woman dead, man critically injured in possible murder-suicide attempt in Whittier

A quiet neighborhood in Whittier turns into a crime scene.

An 83-year-old woman was killed and an 89-year-old man was critically injured Saturday morning in what authorities described as a possible murder-attempted suicide in South Whittier.

Deputies arrived to the 14500 block of Allegan St. around 11:20 a.m.

According to the sheriff's office the woman was dead at the scene from at least two stab wounds to the upper body.

The man also had several stab wounds to the upper body and was taken by paramedics to a hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

"There appears to be no sign of forced entry into the location and it appears as though it possibly could have been a murder/(attempted) suicide with the 89-year-old male stabbing the 83-year-old female and then himself,'' said Deputy Edmo Luna of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

"I love them so much, they were a great couple. And I thought they loved each other too. I still believe they do. I just think she was dealing with Alzheimer's or dementia for so long and maybe he just didn't want to see her suffering anymore," said one neighbor.

The investigation was continuing.
