Woman and her dog killed in Ontario officer-involved shooting

A 47-year-old woman and her dog are dead Thursday afternoon following an officer-involved shooting in Ontario.

Police say they received a call about a woman with a gun at about 2 p.m. in the 400 block of West Maple Street.

Officers arrived and approached the woman when a German Shepard attacked a police K-9, Ontario police said. Officers shot and killed the German Shepherd. It's unclear what caused officers to open fire on the woman after shooting her dog but say she had a gun with her at the time.

Aerial footage from SkyFOX showed a firearm lying on the ground in a backyard. The suspect was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries. Police have not released her identity.

This is an ongoing investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Ontario Police Department.
