Watermelon spill shuts down Dallas highway

A Wednesday night crash left quite a mess on the C.F. Hawn Freeway southeast of Downtown Dallas.

Deputies said an 18-wheeler took the turn onto south Central Expressway too fast. The 90-degree turn is commonly referred to as "dead man's curve."

The driver lost control and his truck rolled over. He was not injured, but his truck spilled its load.

About 36,000 pounds of watermelons fell of the truck. Some of it splattered on the road.

It took hazmat crews about nine hours to clean up the mess. A bobcat tractor had to be brought in to scoop everything up.
