Water main break in East Hollywood leaves 30 customers without water, underground garage flooded

A 12-inch water main break in east Hollywood left an underground garage flooded and a street closure expected to be in effect until later this evening, a utility spokesperson said.

About 30 customers in the area of Vermont Avenue and Clinton Street are also without water service, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power spokesman Albert Rodriguez said.

"And we do have some minor (street) damage on Vermont Avenue,'' he added.

The rupture occurred about 6:30 a.m. All southbound lanes of Vermont Avenue, from Melrose Avenue to Clinton Street, were closed to allow for repair.

An estimated time of full repairs is 7 p.m., Rodriguez said. The cause of the rupture and the age of the 12-inch main was not immediately known.
