Water main break floods garage of Koreatown apartment building

Cleanup is underway at a historic apartment complex after a pipe burst early Thursday morning.

The art deco style building is located on the 500 block of South Serrano Ave in Koreatown. The building is also rumored to have been a hide-out for Prohibition era gangster Alphonse Gabriel, better known as "Al" Capone, or Scarface.

Los Angeles City Firefighters were called to reports of a watermain break under the building just after 2:30am. The LAFD worked several hours to pump the hundreds of gallons of water from the apartment's below ground parking and laundry room.

Residents who first noticed the flooding knocked on neighbors doors to tell them to move their cars.

Multiple cars were reported damaged by the floodwater. A spokesperson for the LAFD tells FOX 11 that the broken pipe supplies water to the buildings fire surpression system.

No word when water and power will be restored to current residents.
