Union Rescue Mission hosts 'Christmas in July' for homeless LA children

It was snowing Wednesday in Downtown Los Angeles for the 14th year!

The Union Rescue Mission (URM) held its annual Christmas in July, an event that aims to get hundreds of deserving children's minds off of their reality of being homeless on LA's Skid Row.

More than 200 kids of all ages from URM and the Hope Gardens Family Center were treated to 20 tons of snow, as well as fun games, prizes and face painting.

The event, sponsored by Subway, caters lunch for all of the families, along with cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn. There was even a special guest appearance from Santa Claus in Bermuda shorts -- because it is July after all!

The kids were able to forget about their situations for a while and have snowball fights, make snow angels and receive presents.

Many of these children would have otherwise not been exposed to snow, and thanks to "Christmas in July," this small gesture lasted for a day, but the smiles last for at least a week!
