Two people killed, several others trapped in Northridge vehicle crash

Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free several trapped people following a crash in the 17500 block of Parthenia Street in Northridge Saturday afternoon.

Los Angeles Fire Department says five people needed extrication. At least two people were killed in Saturday's crash.

Parthenia Street between White Oak Ave and Louise Avenue will remain closed until LAPD finishes their investigation. Drivers should expect congestion and delay. Officials urge drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes.

LA Fire Department says there were two people inside of a 'kit car' -- the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene and the driver died at the hospital.

Four other people in a sedan were trapped with the two front occupants suffering critical injuries and two others in the rear of the car in serious condition, according to LA Fire Department. All people injured were taken to area hospitals.

The collision was reported shortly after 2 p.m.

No further details were immediately known.
