Traffic jam on 134 fwy in Eagle Rock after police pursuit ends in crash

Three people were injured when a brief chase ended in a crash Friday on the Ventura (134) Freeway in Glendale, resulting in the arrest of a man and backing up the freeway in both directions.

The pursuit began just before 8:20 p.m. in the area of Glendale Avenue and the eastbound Ventura (134) Freeway, said Sgt. Robert William of the Glendale Police Department.

Officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation and when the driver failed to stop, a chase began that went onto the freeway.

``The pursuit ended fairly shortly thereafter as the suspect vehicle collided with another motorist,'' William said.

The driver fled the vehicle, running across the freeway's westbound lanes and onto an embankment by the eastbound portion of the freeway where there were no homes.

His female passenger and two others, a male and a female, who were in the vehicle his collided with were taken to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries, William said.

The suspect was located and taken into custody with the help of a police dog that searched the shrubs off the embankment and air support.

The suspect vehicle was discovered to be a reported stolen vehicle and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle, William said.

The suspect's name was not immediately released.
