Traffic backed up for miles after hazmat spill on NB 5 Fwy in Castaic
(FOX 11) - All the lanes were reopened on the Golden State 5 Freeway after they were closed earlier on Monday when a tanker began spilling its load of hydrogen peroxide near Castaic.
The spill forced the California Highway Patrol to close down all northbound lanes at the site, shutting down traffic flow for miles
EARLIER:
Traffic is at a standstill and backing up for miles on the northbound 5 Freeway in the Castaic area after a tanker truck spilled hazardous materials in lanes.
The incident which shut down the 5 Freeway between Parker Road and Templin Highway near Castaic, backing up traffic to Hasley Canyon Road was reported around 2:25 p.m., according to the CHP.
The spilled material was described as 4,500 gallons of hydrogen peroxide.
There's no word yet on how long the freeway will be closed.
