California Storms: Families left in the dark amid power outages
The historic winter storms have left thousands of families left in the dark due to power outages.
LOS ANGELES - Power was steadily being restored for thousands of Southern California residents who suffered power outages over the weekend after a historic winter storm pummeled the area.
Both the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and Southern California Edison reported multiple large outages that began Friday.
As of 9:30 p.m. Monday, about 9,300 LADWP customers across Los Angeles County were still without power as crews worked to remedy more than 400 reported outages. The latest numbers come as crews had restored power to 50,000 customers and since the start of the storm Friday, crews have restored power to more than 98,000 customers, officials said.
LADWP anticipated a heavy volume of calls and staffed accordingly. However, the company experienced technical difficulties and customers were unable to reach them.

SoCal residents wait for power to return after outages
The power went out for thousands of Southern California residents.
"As our work crews navigate through downed trees and power lines to restore service, the estimated restoration times provided on our outage map may not reflect current field conditions and the work that must be done to make repairs," LADWP said on social media.
As for SoCal Edison customers, around 1,000 people were impacted by the outages across the area.

LADWP issued the following tips if you are experiencing an outage:
- Report it online at com/outages or by calling 1-800-DIAL-DWP (1-800-342-5397)
- Use a flashlight instead of candles, as a light source.
- Switch off all lights, except for one, so you will know when your power has been restored.
- Once your power is restored, it may require you to reset your circuit breaker for the lights to come back on.
- Keep your refrigerator closed to keep food cold.
- Check on vulnerable friends and neighbors to make sure they are safe.
