Suspicious package investigation prompts street closures in West Hollywood

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, all roadways were opened after authorities deemed the "suspicious package" safe. They did not immediately release what that package consisted of or what it was.

EARLIER

The public is being asked to avoid the area of Santa Monica Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood after a "suspicious package" was discovered on a sidewalk.

Law enforcement was called to West Hollywood at about 8:30 p.m. with the bomb squad close behind for a report of a device similar to a pressure cooker. The area was taped off and traffic diverted through other streets.

Santa Monica Boulevard is closed between Orange Grove Avenue and Hayworth Avenue.

Fairfax Avenue is closed between Norton Avenue and Romaine Street.

Drivers are being asked to look for alternate routes. No further details were immediately known.
