Suspect wanted for attacking three Orthodox Jewish women in string of hate crimes

(FOX 11) - LAPD detectives are seeking the public's help finding a man accused of targeting women in the Orthodox Jewish community.

Many Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair with wigs, scarves, hats and other articles as a symbol of modesty.

As of Wednesday, police were aware of three victims.

The first two incidents happened during the Yom Kippur Holiday.

On September 19, an 80-year-old woman was walking on Bellaire Avenue from Burbank Boulevard. Detectives said the suspect followed her to Chandler Boulevard then snatched her wig off her head, smiled and handed it back to her.

The suspect never said anything and then calmly walked away.

Later that day, a 36-year-old woman was walking on Chandler boulevard at Bellaire Avenue when the same suspect tried to pull her wig off her head.

Detective Martin Contreras with LAPD's NortH Hollywood division told FOX 11 reporter, Leah Uko the the second victim came forward to police after hearing about the most recent battery, which occurred on November 6.

Again in broad daylight, the same suspect pulled off a wig covering a 58-year-old woman's head. This incident happened as she was loading her car near Laurel Canyon and Burbank Boulevard.

The suspect is described as a white man, positive 25-30 years old with an athletic build last seen wearing a long-sleeve t-shirt and neon-colored sunglasses.
