Suspect shot and killed after allegedly attacking CHP officer in Ventura County
VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (FOX11) - A man was shot dead after allegedly attacking an officer in Ventura County.
Around 6 a.m Friday a California Highway Patrol Officer responded to the area of Portal Road and Ventura Avenue after receiving a call of a man walking into traffic.
Once on scene the sheriff's office says the suspect attacked the officer; during the physical altercation the officer fired one round hitting the suspect in the chest.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The CHP officer was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The name of the suspect has not yet been released.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office will investigate the shooting while the California Highway Patrol conducts an administrative investigation to determine whether the use of force was consistent with their policy.
