Suspect arrested in brutal attack of elderly man in Santa Ana

SANTA ANA, CA (FOX 11) - A man was arrested Saturday in connection to a brutal attack of an elderly man in a Santa Ana parking lot captured on surveillance video.

The 83-year-old victim was attacked about 6:10 a.m. after getting out of his vehicle in the parking lot of the Emerald Bay Restaurant, 5015 W. Edinger Ave., where a man walked up to him and repeatedly punched and kicked him, knocking him to the ground, said Santa Ana Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.

"The guy was there to just get a cup of coffee and read his newspaper," Bertagna said. "It (the attack) was out of no where."

Police said 29-year-old Demarrea Chante Barnes was taken into custody in Anaheim.
