Starving Dog Left To Die Rescued From South L.A. Street And Given A Second Chance
SOUTH LOS ANGELES (FOX 11) - This emaciated dog was found in this position, starving to death. How long did people walk past her? How many people saw her starving? She has ticks, and maggots. She stopped trying to live.
Thankfully someone did not just walk by. The Ghetto Rescue Foundation and Animal Regulations were notified.
Immediately they went to work coordinating this life saving effort. This task took the cooperation of police Officers, Animal Control and volunteers. She has maggots in open wounds, large fat ticks and is starving. It took a long time for her to get like this. They named her Spirit Golden because of the heart-shaped spot on her back and her will to survive.

She weighed only 26 pounds when she was found on Aug. 1 -- about half the amount a dog her size should weigh.
Moved by her story, a local VCA Animal Hospital is giving Spirit specialty care and waiving a lot of the fees. She has since gained five pounds, but doctors say she is not out of the woods yet.
Spirit's care is being paid for by Ghetto Rescue's emergency fund. To donate, visit ghettorescueffoundation.org
