South Gate father arrested on charges of killing baby daughter

A South Gate father has been arrested after being accused of killing his 5-month-old baby daughter.

The investigation into the infant's death began on Feb. 23, 2019, when authorities responded to a home in the 8000 block of California Avenue just before 5 a.m. on a report of a baby not breathing.

Despite life-saving efforts, the 5-month-old, whose identity was not released by police, died at the scene.

Jose Francisco Aleman, 22, was arrested on March 7 after an autopsy revealed the infant did not die of natural causes and there was evidence of traumatic injury.

Aleman was booked at South Gate Police Department on charges of homicide and assault on a child causing death. On Monday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office formally charged Aleman on those charges. His arraignment has been postponed until March 26, 2019.

Anyone with further information about this case is asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Century Station at 323-568-4800 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
