Sheriff's deputy injured during traffic stop in Lakewood

Authorities have arrested a man believed to be the prime suspect accused of injuring a deputy earlier in the day following a manhunt.

The deputy suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at a local hospital.

EARLIER

Law enforcement is currently searching for a suspect in Downey involved in an assault that injured a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy earlier in the day.

Authorities have set up a perimeter in the area of Clarke Avenue and Imperial Highway. They are asking the public to avoid that area while the search continues.

There is no suspect description at this time but the Sheriff's Office said the suspect struck and injured a deputy during a traffic stop in Lakewood Thursday afternoon before running away after a short vehicle pursuit.

Authorities say the deputy suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.

No further details were immediately known.
