Second person dies after car crashes into Sunland building

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and a woman died at a hospital Monday after a car crashed into a commercial building in Sunland, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 3:12 a.m. at 7831 West Foothill Boulevard, Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

The injured woman was trapped inside the car and firefighters used the jaws of life to free her so she could be taken to a hospital, Stewart said. She was pronounced dead at the hospital, coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz told City News Service.

The other patient was pronounced dead at the scene and remained in the car while it was removed from the building, Stewart said.

The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety determined the stability of part of the building has been compromised, she said.
