Search dog team from Riverside County dispatched for Irma rescues

Task Force Six Canine Search Team has been activated to help after Hurricane Irma made landfall in Puerto Rico.

The team of 4 dogs, 4 handlers and three support staff loaded up in Riverside on Friday morning before taking off to LAX for their evening flight.

FEMA requested the team to help people on the island after Irma made landfall there on Thursday knocking out power to 60-percent of households and leaving many homes and buildings uninhabitable.

The dogs are trained to search for live humans buried beneath rubble.

The task force doesn't know how long they will be in Puerto Rico, but it's possible they get deployed to Florida after Irma hits there over the weekend.
