Santa Clarita Valley International School lockdown lifted; teen detained

A charter school in Castaic was locked down for several hours Thursday in response to an unspecified threat, and a 15-year-old student was detained by sheriff's deputies.

Officials with Santa Clarita Valley International Charter School, 28060 Hasley Canyon Road, said the "unconfirmed threat'' was received Thursday morning.

"The sheriff's department was immediately notified and deputies are at SCVi,'' according to a message posted on the school's website.

Parents were advised to keep their children at home if they were not already at the campus.

Sheriff's officials said a parent notified authorities of the threat, which was made ``from one student to another student.''

The lockdown was lifted early Thursday afternoon, and parents were advised that they could begin picking up their students.

Sheriff's officials said a 15-year-old student was detained in connection with the threat. It was unclear if the student had been arrested or was being questioned.
