Roscoe's House of Chicken n' Waffles files Chapter 11 bankruptcy

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - People are concerned about the future of soul-food chain Roscoe's House of Chicken n' Waffles after its parent company East Coast Foods Incorporated filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The bankruptcy filing doesn't necessarily mean that the famed chicken and waffle emporium is going out of business, but they will gain some time to do some restructuring and get its debts in order.

Among the debts the company has to face, is the case of Daniel Beasley of Compton, who is a former employee of one the the L.A. locations on Pico Boulevard. Daniel sued Roscoe's for racial discrimination and wrongful-termination against the chain in 2013 and won $3-million dollars in the judgment.

An attorney for Roscoe's declined to comment on the case, however Beasley's lawyer Scott Cummings disclosed that the restaurant could have settled the case for less.

The eatery chain was founded by Herb Hudson in Long Beach in 1975 and is a local favorite of film and TV celebrities, pro-athletes and music stars...even President Obama has been known to enjoy a plate of chicken and waffles when he makes his Southern California visit.

Roscoe's operates six restaurants in Los Angeles County and one in Orange County.
