Dozens of residents were evacuated when drywall under the roof collapsed.

The first call to the Casa del Sol Apartments located on Brookhurst Street came just before 8 a.m. Sunday.

Spokesperson Jeff Lopez from the Huntington Beach Fire Department says the complex has been undergoing roof replacements since February.

He says solar panels were being installed as roofs were replaced. Crews had covered the roofs with tarps to guard against rain, but rain got through and compromised drywall.

Eleanor Dematteo shared pictures of her apartment with FOX11's Christine O'Donnell after making a run back to the residence to save some of her belongs.

She says she's lived at Casa del Sol for 15 years and has never seen anything like this.

She's on the first floor.

A total of 32 units in buildings 4 and 5 were red tagged after being evacuated.

Property management authorized reimbursements of $150 per night for residents to stay in hotels.

There were no injuries and residents were able to gather important belongings and documents before they left.
