Police surround Sherman Oaks Galleria in search of pursuit suspects
SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. - Police surrounded the Sherman Oaks Galleria after two pursuit suspects ditched a stolen car and fled on foot into one of the mall's parking garages early Wednesday morning.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department spotted a reported stolen silver Lexus in Northridge. When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver continued and led officers on a chase beginning at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Amestoy Avenue just before 2:30 a.m., police said.
The pursuit ensued for about seven miles and ended at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. The two men inside the Lexus dumped the stolen car and ran into a parking structure.
Police blocked off all four corners of the mall from Ventura and Sepulveda boulevards, as well as Camarillo Street.
LAPD officers ordered the suspects to exit the parking garage on loudspeakers. When the suspects failed to comply with the officers' demands, a K-9 team was called in. The K-9 team successfully found one of the suspects.
The second suspect remains at large and police called off the search by 5:40 a.m.
