Police say hundreds of illegal marijuana dispensaries are operating in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Police estimate there are anywhere from 200-300 rogue marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department say the shops are operating without a license and selling non-compliant products and they could sell pot to anyone who walks in without checking age or ID.
Many of the stores can be found on the marijuana dispensary website, Weed Maps. State officials have ordered the website to stop promoting illegal marijuana retailers, but Weed Maps is seeking protection under the same federal law that protects other third-party social media sites.
Meanwhile, the LAPD has made more than 30 arrests connected to rogue dispensaries and has shut down eight illegal dispensaries so far this year.
There are about 130 licenses that have been issued for marijuana retailers in LA, but the LAPD estimates there are about double that number of shops operating illegally.
