Police investigate attempted kidnapping of student near Valley middle school

The LAUSD police department confirms they are investigating an attempted abduction of a middle school student that happened on Tuesday near Hale Charter Academy in Woodland Hills.

Police tell FOX 11 that as a male student was walking on a sidewalk near the intersection of Burbank Boulevard and Platt Avenue, a woman around the age of 60 pulled up and blocked his path.

She got out of her vehicle, and grabbed the boy's arm to try and pull him away, but police say he pushed her off and he was able to escape unharmed.

The woman fled the scene in a black four door vehicle, and no detailed suspect description was available.

The principal of the school sent a letter out to parents on Wednesday afternoon to inform them of what had happened, and said they reported the incident to other nearby schools.

Another child luring incident was reported near a Newbury Park middle school just hours before the Woodland Hills incident. The suspect in that case is also a woman, but the vehicle description is different.

That story can be viewed on the Ventura County Star here.

FOX 11 has reached out to the detectives on the Newbury Park case to ask about any potential connection between the attempted abductions, but we have not heard back.
