Police: Homeless man breaks into Santa Monica home and sets it on fire

Police say a homeless man broke into a house on Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica Monday afternoon and set it on fire.

Firefighters were called to the 1300 block of Pacific Coast Highway at about 1 p.m. and quickly put out the blaze limiting the damage to the home. No injuries were reported.

At about the same time, the suspect was spotted on the roof of a nearby house and police were called forcing authorities to close down the southbound lanes of Pacific Coast Highway and one northbound traffic lane.

The suspect eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. He was booked on suspicion of burglary, and arson.

The identity of the suspect was not immediately released.
