Pedestrian struck, killed by Metrolink train

A Metrolink train struck and killed a pedestrian Thursday in El Monte.

The man who was struck died at the scene. The crash occurred around 10 a.m. between the Baldwin Park and El Monte stations, El Monte Police Department and Metrolink said.

Information was not immediately available on his identity, but authorities say he was 19 years old and was wearing headphones and didn't appear to see or hear the train.

The man was struck by the SB Line 319 train bound for Los Angeles from San Bernardino, according to Metrolink, which reported that the tracks were closed between Baldwin Park and El Monte.

Metrolink said the track closure also affected the SB Line 321 train to Los Angeles being held at Baldwin Park; and the SB Line 306 train to downtown San Bernardino, ordered to hold at El Monte.

SB Line 308 to Downtown San Bernardino passengers at Cal State and EL Monte are asked to contact the Metrolink call center at 800-371-5465 or pick up the free passenger assistance phone at the station for alternate transportation.
