Officers fire less-lethal rounds to take down armed suspect suffering from mental issues, LAPD says

A man who was believed to be suffering from mental health issues was taken into custody after officers fired less-lethal rounds to subdue him on Wednesday night in the Mount Washington area of Los Angeles, LAPD said. 

Officers were called to the 4500 block of North Figueroa Street around 7:15 p.m., LAPD Officer Mike Lopez said. Arriving officers discovered a man with a sharp object and when they fired less-lethal rounds and got him into custody.

He was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. Police did not release the suspect's identity.

No police officers were injured.
