Officer hurt in police shooting in Westlake district, Los Angeles

A Los Angeles school police officer was injured Friday afternoon in an off-campus officer-involved shooting that occurred in the area of 3rd and Alvarado streets in the Westlake district of Los Angeles.

The officer was not hit by gunfire, according to authorities. He suffered a leg injury and was taken to a local hospital and was conscious. His condition is unknown at this time.

Police say the officer-involved shooting occurred either right before or right after the officer was struck by a vehicle. The shooting happened at about 2:45 p.m.

A female suspect was involved in multiple vehicle crashes and one carjacking, according to LAPD Capt. Al Lopez. The suspect is in custody but it's unclear if she was shot. Officials say there are no outstanding suspects.

It appears the incident involved a multi-car crash. At least three cars were damaged.

The Los Angeles Fire Department says they responded to a report of a vehicle that had hit a pedestrian and ended up taking four people to the hospital, including the school police officer.

No further details were immediately known. The investigation is ongoing.
