Neighbors plan early Christmas for 3-year-old with cancer

Doctors said she only has weeks to live, but neighbors are determined to make sure a young Newton County girl sees Christmas.

November 9, Sara Lo posted on the "Leenastrong Fighting Neuroblastoma" Facebook page that her daughter, Leena, 3, would not survive after two years of fighting cancer.

"I have the option to do chemo to maybe prolong her life for a little longer, or it could take it faster," Lo wrote. "I decided to just take her home and let her spend the rest of her days with her brothers and sisters."

Kara Adsit lives down the street from the Los and heard about Leena's prognosis through another family battling neuroblastoma. She decided to rally the community to help the Lo family celebrate one last Christmas together--this Saturday.

"So many times when you go through a situation like this you feel so alone and we can't imagine," said Adsit. "So, we're just trying to support this family and show them love in whatever way we can."

Over the weekend, Adsit and an army of volunteers decorated the Lo home with inflatables and other larger-than-life Christmas items.

The Los are currently at Disney World on a trip coordinated by the Make-A-Wish Foundation so that Leena could meet Elsa, her favorite princess.

When they return, the community plans to not just surprise them with the decorations, but a whole host of Christmas surprises.

"It's gonna mean the world to them because this couldn't happen without the community and the love and support that other people have for us and you know, it's what Leena wants and it's what we want as a family and it's what the world wants to see," said Pearl Nguyen, Leena's aunt.
