Man returns home after suffering injuries in Long Beach crane collapse

A man was released from a hospital and returned home after he was injured in a crane collapse in Long Beach Monday afternoon, officials said. 

The homeowner was working in his backyard when a crane operator working on overhead powerlines fell and toppled onto his home in the 300 block of 61st Street located near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue around 12:30 p.m.

A neighbor recorded footage on their cell phone shortly after the crane collapsed that displayed damage to the neighborhood. More footage was captured on a ring camera. 

The homeowner was taken to a local hospital and sustained injuries to his upper body, officials said. 

Crews were working on a private project when the incident occurred, Long Beach City officials confirmed. 

Power was restored overnight to a dozen homes impacted by the collapse. 

The crane collapse also caused damage to driveways and streets in the area. 

The investigation is ongoing.
