Man killed in possible street racing crash in South L.A.

An investigation was underway in South Los Angeles after a 29-year-old was killed in a possible street racing crash, police said.

The crash happened around 12:15 a.m. in the 9300 block of South Western Avenue.

Surveillance video showed the moment a driver lost control and slammed into a white van. The impact caused the van to travel several feet. The surveillance footage also showed another car speeding, which led officials to believe the driver who crashed into the van may have been street racing, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

"This kind of stuff happens a lot around here...that's why I put the cameras up because of stuff like this," a witness said.

Parademics rushed the driver to a hospital where he died, LAPD said.

His identity has not been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
