BOYLE HEIGHTS, Calif. (FOX 11/ CNS) - A man was shot dead in an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning that forced the temporary closure of the Metro Gold Line Soto Station in Boyle Heights.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner's office.
Shortly after midnight, officers on patrol in the area of First and Soto streets heard multiple gunshots in the area of First and Breed streets, said Officer Jenny Houser of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.
Officers went westbound on First Street to Breed, saw a male suspect and tried to stop him when the officer-involved shooting occurred, Houser said.
Paramedics dispatched to the location pronounced the suspect dead at the scene, and a gun was recovered at the location, she said.
Sgt. Chris Ramirez of the LAPD described the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 30s.
The Metro Gold Line Soto Station was closed for hours due to the police activity. Metro established emergency bus shuttle service for riders between the Mariachi Plaza and Indiana stations, according to Metro Spokesman Jose
The station was re-opened at about 10:15 a.m., Ubaldo said.
