Man killed in hit and run at Santa Ana park

A man was killed Monday when he was attacked and then run over by another man he had an altercation with at Centennial Regional Park in Santa Ana.

Officers were dispatched around 7 p.m. to the park located at 3000 W. Edinger Ave. to a report of a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian, said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Matt Sorenson.

Officers found the victim and had him taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators learned the victim was involved in an altercation with another man in which the victim was struck at least once in the upper body with an unknown object before being run over, Sorenson said. The suspect fled the scene.

Investigators were on scene late Monday night trying to determine the motive and get a description of the suspect vehicle, Sorenson said.
