Long Beach Police searching for driver that struck 90-year-old pedestrian, left him there to die

Long Beach Police Monday were searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that left a 90-year-old man dead.

Officers responded to Willow Street and La Vere Drive just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday where they located an adult male pedestrian laying in the roadway. He was transported to a local hospital where he died, authorities said. His identity has not been released.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a white Toyota Tacoma truck was traveling westbound on Willow Street when it struck the 90-year-old pedestrian, who was walking northbound in an unmarked crosswalk across Willow Street at La Vere Drive. The driver of the truck failed to remain on scene and fled without providing any information, police said.

No description was available of the suspect.
