LAPD officer struck in hit-and-run in South L.A.

Police were looking for the person who was behind the wheel when they struck an officer in a hit-and-run in South Los Angeles Monday night.

The incident happened on the intersection of East 61st and San Pedro streets around 10:40 p.m., LAPD said.

Officer Mike Martinez was patrolling his assigned area when he pulled over a suspected stolen car. While in the process of handcuffing the people inside the suspected stolen car, a van traveling the opposite direction on San Pedro slammed into Martinez. The driver did not stop and continued traveling with the Martinez on the hood of their van. He was eventually able to dislodge himself from the moving vehicle.

Martinez was previously hit by a DUI driver.

He reported pain on his right side of his body but is expected to make another full recovery.
