LAPD Chief Charlie Beck fractures pelvis in dirt bike accident

Los Angeles Chief of Police Charlie Beck is recovering after falling off a dirt bike this weekend and fracturing his pelvis in the Tehachapi Mountains, authorities said.

Becky, a competitive off-road motorcycle rider for 40 years, was with a group of friends Saturday when he fell on a "rocky trail."

He was able to ride back to his truck and received emergency medical care at a local hospital, officials said.

Beck will receive follow up care, which could include surgery on Monday. Doctors said he is expected to have a full recovery and return to the office within the next week.

"I want to thank everyone for their well-wishes as I recuperate from my recent motorcycle mishap," Chief Beck said. "As always, I am in constant contact with my LAPD command staff and will be working diligently while I recuperate to continue leading the men and women of the LAPD."
