L.A. police officer revives newborn allegedly dropped by father

A man remained in jail Monday accused of almost killing his newborn son in the Westlake District.

At about 11:05 pm Saturday, police responded to a domestic dispute call at an apartment on Columbia Avenue at Mirarmar Street.

Witnesses said a woman ran outside screaming for help, and someone called 911.

According to police, William Lemuszetino, 32, struck his three-week-old child and dropped him on the floor during an argument with the infant's mother.

When officers arrived, the baby was unresponsive. Officer Alex Frasier said he immediately performed CPR and the child was able to breath again.

"The infant was transported to a local hospital where he was listed in stable condition and has since been released to his mother," according to an LAPD statement.

The mother suffered scratches in the fight, police reported.

Lemuszetino was arrested on suspicion of causing harmful injury to a child and was being held on $100,000 bail.
