Juvenile suspect shot in officer-involved shooting in La Habra

A 16-year-old boy allegedly armed with a handgun was injured Monday in an officer-involved shooting in La Habra.

Police said they were called around 9:30 a.m. about a family disturbance in the 200 block of South Monte Vista Road.

The caller -- reported to be the teen's mother -- told police the teen had a gun and threatened to shoot her before fleeing on foot, saying he ``wanted to shoot something and be on the news,'' police said.

An officer spotted the teen in the 300 block of South Walnut Street and tried to contact him, but a shooting occurred, leaving the teen wounded. It wasn't immediately clear what precipitated the shooting or if the teen fired at the officer, but the officer was not injured.

After being shot, the teen managed to run away, but he was found near Knudsen and Third Street and taken to a hospital.

He is expected to be booked on suspicion of attempted murder, criminal threats and brandishing a firearm, police said.
