Job Finder: RecruitMilitary hosts virtual career fairs

A veteran’s virtual job fair is taking place Thursday as recruiters look to fill up to 800 job openings.

RecruitMilitary is hosting three of them for veterans across the country and 300 of the open spots are in Southern California.

Chris Stevens, the Vice President of RecruitMilitary, says after fixing planes for over 20 years in the Air Force he knows first-hand how challenging it can be to transition back into the workforce.

Thursday's career fair is for any active military members transitioning back into corporate America.

Veterans Reserve, the National Guard and spouses are welcome too.

According to Stevens, more than 50 companies are currently recruiting including the San Bernardino Police Department, Sprout Farmers Market United Services Technologies,  and Waste Management.

If you can’t make the virtual fair Thursday, you can also find all the current openings on the website and search "Southern California."

Stevens says you’ll see everything from jobs in the travel and insurance industry, plus Waste Management.

"Stuff like supervisors... they have truck drivers maintenance supervisors, they have distribution headquarters, Waste Management hires a lot from us. They love the military vets.”

The site also offers a number of free webinars to help with building your resume and gives interview tips so you can start networking.

“I noticed a lot of vets that are probably somewhat apprehensive. Like, how do I go into the virtual career for what I do within there…there is a resource center where we have recorded webinars that will help ease those frustrations.”

Plus, Stevens says while the career fair is designed as an introduction to the 300 plus opportunities, some veterans could be interviewed on the spot and have new duties to report to right away.

"Just because we're doing this Southern California one, it might be people at a station active duty in LA or San Diego…they might not want to stay there, you know, so  what they can do is check out the rest of the job fairs that we're doing.”
