20-year-old IE man identified by family as person killed in Pomona police shooting
POMONA, Calif. - Isaac Cannon, a 20-year-old man from Rancho Cucamonga, was identified by family members as the person who was shot and killed by police in Pomona late Monday night.
Family members said they are heartbroken.
Investigators said the deadly shooting occurred near the intersection of Murchison Avenue and Stratus Drive in Pomona just after 10:05 p.m.
Following a 911 call from a passerby reporting a gunman chasing two men, officers from the Pomona Police Department responded to the neighborhood.
"The caller stated that she saw the person chasing them through the area in the homes behind me which are under construction," said Lt. Michael Modica with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau.
"They saw a person matching the description with the person given in the 911 call who was armed. They encountered that individual at which time he produced a firearm and an officer-involved shooting occurred," said Lt. Modica.
Cannon was struck by police gunfire and pronounced dead at the scene by responding fire paramedics. No officers were injured during the incident.
Investigators said a handgun was recovered from the scene and officers were wearing operating body cameras.
His loved ones said he worked as a mechanic tech at Caliber Collisions and was described as a "hard-working young man" by his mother, Rochelle Cannon, at the investigation site.

Family members told FOX11 they believe he was the victim of a robbery and had been chasing two men involved in the crime before officers arrived.
