Irvine police arrest man following attempted rape of cleaning woman

Police have arrested a 21-year-old man in the attempted rape of a cleaning woman in an Irvine office building.

Irvine police say Eduardo Godoy Gonzalez, 21, is seen in a surveillance video carrying a skateboard as he approaches the unidentified woman at about 1:20 a.m. Wednesday at 71877 Von Kerman Avenue. They say the door to the office she was cleaning was unlocked.

At one point in the video, the suspect takes out what police are saying was a fake Glock handgun out of his sweatshirt pocket. Authorities say the suspect asked the victim in Spanish if she was working alone, and when she answered yes, he made sexual comments to her before demanding sex, but when she refused, the suspect took out the replica gun.

The video ends with the woman pleading for her life. Police say the suspect eventually pushed the woman into another room where he began taking off her clothes. The victim fought and eventually was able to disarm the suspect before running to a nearby office for help, according to investigators.

Police found the fake fun at the scene. The victim suffered bruises to her arms, hands and breasts as well as scratches to her face, authorities said.

Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call Detective Haldor Larum at 949-724-7194.
