Intruder shot and killed by homeowner during break-in
SAN PEDRO, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - An intruder was fatally shot in San Pedro this morning by a homeowner who was then detained, police said.
The break-in and subsequent shooting took place at a house in the 300 block of West 11th Street shortly before 3 a.m., said Los Angeles police Sgt. K. Castillo.
"The intruder was shot inside the home by the homeowner when he found him inside,'' Castillo said. "The man who was shot ... was transported to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in critical condition.''
LAPD Capt. Gary Walters told news media outlets the suspect, a man in his 30s, later died at the hospital. His name was withheld pending family notification.
"We are interviewing the homeowner about what happened and there are several other witnesses that investigators still need to talk to,'' Walters added.
