Infant killed in crash at Downey intersection
DOWNEY, Calif. (CNS/ FOX 11) - A 4-month-old boy was killed and a 21-year-old woman was injured Saturday while they were rear-seat passengers in a two-vehicle crash in Downey between an SUV and a pickup truck.
The crash was reported at 1:54 a.m. at the intersection of Firestone Boulevard and Brookshire Avenue, according to Downey police Sgt. Jaime Pelayo.
A Mercedes SUV, driven by a 23-year-old man going southbound on Brookshire through the intersection, struck a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 34-year-old man who was going eastbound on Firestone, Pelayo said.
The SUV's rear-seated passengers, the 4-month-old boy and the 21-year-old woman, were rushed to an area hospital, where the boy was pronounced dead, Pelayo said.
The 21-year-old woman's injuries were not considered life-threatening, according to Sgt. P. Miller of the Downey Police Department.
Both drivers suffered only minor injuries, Pelayo said. It was not immediately known if either driver was cited or arrested.
